'I want to become' Statement
When looking back at my ‘I am’ statement, I still very much find myself relating to a lot of
these personal ideas of social tolerance and developing understanding throughout my career
here at IUPUI. There was also the mention of how my artistic studies here as a Herron student
connect to my ideas of success and strive for education as both a Herron and Honors Student.
Additionally, while I look back on this writing, there are some new values and ideas I would like
to include to further emphasize who I want to become here as an honors student. I want to
become the kind of person who can truly achieve balance in both my career as a student and as
a person in general. At the beginning of the semester, I was very much not overwhelmed and
was able to take the time out of my day to plan, organize and make time for myself; however
with classes getting more rigorous and my duties as a resident assistant, it becomes next to
impossible to take care of myself all the time. I am someone that greatly values my personal
time and really wants to take time for myself but it becomes more difficult as I take on more
responsibilities.
I want to become a person who can learn to say no and establish better boundaries
between my personal and academic life as an honors student. I want to become an individual
that can further develop my own ideas around academics and come to a better understanding of
my goals and what I want to achieve; aside from graduating on time and keeping my
scholarships. I want to further develop my artistic portfolio so I can leave college confident about
my career and finding job security outside of schooling, wanting to look back at my career here
at school and look at it with fondness. Fondness for what I was able to achieve academically
and artistically and being able to reflect on all of the opportunities I was able to be in and gain
valuable experience from. In all, I have come to learn in a short amount of time that I want to
become the kind of person who wants to accomplish a healthy work/life balance between my
personal health and academic responsibilities; all while still wanting to accept opportunities for
showcases, exhibitions, markets and more throughout my next two years here at IUPUI.
Summary:
This is the completed 'I want to become' statement that is a reflection of just who I want to become as an individual and a student here at IUI. I reflect on how my 'I am' statement is similar to my 'I want to become' statement and how I strive to become a person with a better assertion of boundaries in my personal and work life along with my own expectations for myself throughout my time here at IUI.
